Many people just ride past Taroundannt, but this is a lovely town, oft touted as a smaller and much friendlier version of Marrakech, along with water sellers and snake charmers.
This very short 8-km circular tour is round the outside of the town’s crenelated pisé walls. The 7-m high walls are currently undergoing refurbishment, UNESCO having allocated £150million for the project—not sure it would cost that much to build them in the first place.
The tour takes in the Oued Taroundannt to the north of the city which is to be dammed to hold back irrigation waters. The government also plans the construction of a juicing factory to process local oranges, so the route finishes in the middle of the town for an orange or nus nus break.
